The South Coast in the State of New South Wales, Australia, is the short coastal strip that stretches from the Shoalhaven area in the north to the border with Victoria in the south. It is mostly covered by three national parks: Jervis Bay National Park, Eurobodalla National Park, and Beowa National Park. It is bounded to the west by the coastal escarpment of the Southern Tablelands. The Pacific Ocean's eastern shore is characterized by a rocky coastline, several beaches, and lakes intermingled with undulating countryside and tiny towns and villages. The Bega Valley is located in the more distant south, while the South Coast also contains the Eurobodalla Shire and the Commonwealth Jervis Bay Territory, which is close to the City of Shoalhaven Local Government Area. The Shoalhaven District is part of the North Coast. The Illawarra is included in some definitions of the area, although it is frequently considered to be a separate and distinct region of New South Wales.
